Prior to joining Matrivax in 2010, Dr. Cartee was a Research Instructor/Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he worked on the biosynthesis and characterization of the cell surface polysaccharides ofStreptococcus pneumoniae. Dr. Cartee received his doctoral degree from UAB and his B.S. from Auburn University. Dr. Cartee has extensive experience in polysaccharide purification and characterization, biochemistry, enzymology, molecular biology, and bacterial genetics. At Matrivax, he is currently involved in developing purification processes for Vi polysaccharide from Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and the capsular polysaccharides of S. pneumoniae. He is also contributing in the production of the matrix proteins and is lead scientist on formulating and developing Protein Capsular Matrix Vaccines (PCMVs).
